5,000 TPD Wastewater UV Disinfection System with Cleaning and Monitoring

Published 16 October 2026 · Customer identity withheld

KONCHE supplied an open-channel UV disinfection system for a 5,000-tonne-per-day wastewater project in China. The system uses three stainless steel 316 modules containing 15 UV lamps, with a combined lamp rating of 4.8 kW. Its supply package includes pneumatic cleaning components, UV intensity monitoring and water-level monitoring. The project passed acceptance, met its required discharge criteria and entered operation.

Project requirements and equipment configuration

The UV equipment forms part of the wastewater treatment process. For the project owner and engineering team, the supply scope covered more than the submerged lamp modules: it also included the cleaning equipment, instruments, channel accessories and electrical controls needed for installation.

Parameter Project configuration
Treatment scale 5,000 tonnes per day
Equipment arrangement One open-channel UV system
UV modules Three stainless steel 316 modules
Lamp arrangement Five lamps per module, 15 lamps in total
Individual lamp rating 320 W
Combined lamp rating 4.8 kW
Lamps and quartz sleeves 15 KONCHE lamps and 15 quartz sleeves
Specified lamp service life 12,000 hours
Equipment dimensions 2.1 × 0.3 × 0.95 m
Channel dimensions 4.5 × 0.4 × 1.0 m
Effective lamp water depth 0.5 m
Electrical supply 380 V, 50 Hz

The 4.8 kW figure is the sum of the 15 lamp ratings. It is not a measurement of the entire installation's operating electricity consumption. The 12,000-hour lamp life is the specification for the lamps supplied on this project.

What cleaning equipment was included in the UV supply package?

The package included three cylinders, three cleaning racks and one air compressor, alongside the three UV modules. These pneumatic cleaning components give the project a defined maintenance arrangement rather than leaving the cleaning equipment outside the UV supplier's scope.

For a similar purchase, the cleaning mechanism and access around the installed modules should be discussed together. An engineering team needs to know how the cleaning assemblies fit into the channel and how maintenance personnel will reach the equipment. A generic reference to a self-cleaning UV unit does not replace that installation discussion.

Replacement lamps and quartz sleeves also need to match the installed configuration. KONCHE's UV disinfection consumables provide a relevant starting point for discussing compatible service parts.

How were UV intensity and water level monitored?

The equipment package included one UV intensity instrument and one water-level sensor. A water-level control weir and a flow-conditioning grid were supplied with the channel equipment. These are distinct parts of the package: the instruments monitor conditions, while the channel accessories address the physical arrangement of the flowing water.

The control system also included reserved dry contacts for equipment-status feedback. That interface gives an integrator a point to discuss when planning connections to the site's wider control system. Signal allocation and the required control response should be agreed for each new installation.

The ballast cabinet used coated A3 carbon steel and an outdoor waterproof configuration. The package contained 15 electronic ballasts, with a specified power factor of 0.98, as well as interconnection cables and stainless steel mounting supports.

What should an EPC confirm before ordering a comparable system?

This project's dimensions describe one installation, not a universal layout for every 5,000-tonne-per-day plant. Buyers should provide a channel drawing, operating water levels, design and peak flows, treated-water quality and the required discharge criteria before equipment selection.

The UV system sizing guide explains the information needed for a sizing discussion. For an equipment proposal, the KCW open-channel UV product page is the relevant current product-family reference.

Project outcome

The installed system passed acceptance, achieved the project's required discharge criteria and entered operation. The project demonstrates KONCHE's experience supplying open-channel wastewater UV equipment with cleaning hardware, monitoring instruments and channel accessories in one defined equipment package.

Frequently asked questions

How many UV lamps were installed?

The system used 15 lamps across three modules. Each lamp was rated at 320 W, giving a combined lamp rating of 4.8 kW.

Did the package include pneumatic cleaning components?

Yes. It included three cylinders, three cleaning racks and one air compressor. The equipment scope also included the UV modules and quartz sleeves.

Could the equipment send status signals to the site control system?

The control package included reserved dry contacts for equipment-status feedback. The required signals and site integration should be specified during the technical discussion.

Can the same configuration be used for another 5,000 TPD plant?

A comparable daily flow alone is not enough to confirm the configuration. The new plant's water quality, peak flow, channel geometry and discharge requirements also need to be reviewed.
